Book Design
Book design is my forte. It’s my first love in graphic design. I get everlasting joy from decisions of finesse and details that ensure readability and beauty in a large blocks of text. I enjoy the clarity that comes with a well-laid-out page of information and images, and graphics and tables and all the navigational tools that pre-date today’s digital tools.
I take limited projects, and I choose ones that make me drool at the thought of seeing them in print. I’ve done a number of books over the years, working with Oxford University Press Pakistan (where I was Director of Creative Services and Digital Publishing), as an independent designer working with a publisher in Liverpool (deCoubertin Books), or with individuals in Pakistan.
I offer a comprehensive range of services to anyone looking to develop English language books:
- Internal book design and layout – from text-only novels to complex textbooks that include graphics, tables, footnotes, endnotes, and multiple levels of headings, I design books in Adobe InDesign using styles and standards that make it easy to manage and update.
- Typesetting – the actual process of laying out the book from beginning to end.
- Indexing – indexing a book in InDesign requires attention to detail and a willingness to read the book a couple of times. I’m happy to do it! A correctly-indexed book in InDesign means linking headwords to the page number or a range of pages so that if the layout is adjusted, the page numbers update with a single click.
- Cover design – from jackets to paperback covers, designing a strong cover is the icing on the cake.
- Proofreading – I’m used to following the Oxford Manual for standards, but I’ve also worked with AP and Chicago. You’re seeing UK English on this website, but I have no issues switching to US English and following different style manuals. I charge by the number of pages for proofreading, at $2 per page.

Brands & logos
Designers, like most artists, have a style of their own. Everything they design, including logos, is shaped by this style, so when you look for a designer for your logo, make sure you find one whose designs speak to you. I like clean lines and metaphors. I like taking objects and everyday symbols and imbuing meaning into them with type, colour, and style. If this is something you’re looking for, then I’m the designer for you.
Logo design is an iterative process and should be something you spend time and thought on. Timelines and terms will come after an initial discussion to gauge your requirements. Don’t rush this.
